Snapchat – An Outlook

What is Snapchat?

Released in the public domain in 2011, Snapchat is another instant messaging application developed by Snap Inc.

Its three founders/developers were former students of the prestigious Stanford University. They are Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown.

Snapchat or just snap allows you to share snaps which is the umbrella term for the various sorts of media that can be shared over the network.

A snap is usually a short video or photo which you can send to your friends either raw or edit inside the platform with different effects, filters, captions, and much more to make them more click-worthy. This feature is similar to that on Instagram

Over the years, Snapchat has undergone several changes with new and more exhilarating features replacing the earlier features, including the 1-10 seconds snap accessibility feature.

Without wasting your time on the various Snap features, today, our main focus point will be Snapchat streaks or simply – Snapstreaks.

Read on as we take you through the amazing world of Snapchat streaks.

What are streaks on Snapchat?

In layman’s terms, streaks on Snapchat are a measure of your activity with another individual over the platform.

Represented by a fire (🔥) emoji against your name, a streak gets automatically created when you send or receive a snap for three consecutive days from another user

The streaks feature was launched on April 6th, 2015.

According to the company, these streaks are a symbol of friendship between two individuals that keeps them hooked for a long time. Note that it’s mandatory to send or receive snaps (photos or videos) within 24 hours for three consecutive days to start a Snapstreak. If this rule is broken, you’ll lose your streak.

What are the different Snapstreak emojis?

As you’d know, emojis are quite popular on Snapchat. There are numerous emojis you can use to convey different feelings. For example, yellow heart (💛), red heart (❤️), two pink hearts ( 💕), grimacing face (😬), and so on.

However, the Snapstreak is associated with three emojis only. Hence, let’s understand these below.

  • Fire (🔥)

The fire (🔥) emoji, as aforementioned, represents a Snapchat streak. If you have shared snaps for at least three consecutive days, you and your friend will see the fire emoji against your names.

  • 100 (💯)

If you have achieved the milestone of sharing snaps for 100 consecutive days with your friend, Snapchat automatically adds the fire emoji with the 100 (💯) emoji next to your and your friend’s name.

On the very next day, the 100 emoji will get replaced by 101.

  • Hourglass (⏳)

If any of your active streaks on Snapchat is about to end due to not sharing snaps on any single day, an hourglass (⏳) emoji will appear next to the names of both parties. It’s an indication that you have not shared any snaps in the past 20 hours.

Thus, you have just 4-hours left to share a quick snap and maintain your streak. The hourglass emoji will disappear as you share any snap.

So, these are the main emojis associated with Snapchat streaks.

5 killer tips to increase your Snapchat streaks

Now that you’re more interested in starting a Snapstreak, you might also be interested in knowing how to increase the Snapchat streaks. Are we right?

So, here are our five quick tips to stretch your Snapstreak.

1. Consistency is the key!

The first and foremost thing you’d feed in your mind before starting a streak on Snapchat is – consistency is the key! According to the rules, if you miss out on sharing a snap within 24 hours, you’ll lose all your progress.

You’ll have to restart the streak and it matters a lot if your earlier streak was quite long.

Hence, be consistent to keep your Snapchat streaks going.

2. Ask your friend to view your snap and respond with a snap

Now, you don’t lose the streak only due to your fault. If your friend you share your streak with misses out on replying to your snap, the streak will end.

To avoid such an unwanted situation, we recommend texting your friend to immediately reply with a snap as soon as they view yours.

It’s not recommended to share the snap in the peak hours of the day when either of you may get occupied with something else. Thus, share the day’s snaps as soon as possible if you both are active on Snapchat.

Note: The best time to share snaps is between 10 pm and 1 am.

3. Send at least two snaps in a day

Another top suggestion to keep your Snapstreak going uninterrupted is to send at least two snaps in a day to avoid cleaning.

4. Keep your Snapchat app updated and working

Oh gosh, why can’t I send this snap to my friend? It was perfectly working till yesterday! What just happened?

This situation is very common. Right? If you ever face this situation, you might not be unable to send the snap to your friend. Hence, keep your app updated to its latest version. Furthermore, troubleshoot the app if it’s developing other issues or bugs.

5. Send snaps to multiple people

Last but not least, start your Snapchat streak with multiple people simultaneously. The hack is simple. The more people, the higher your chances of keeping at least one streak continuous.

If one of your friends misses out on sending a snap any day due to unavoidable circumstances, you can be assured of other ongoing streaks with others.

These are the top five tips to increase the length of your Snapchat streak and get a chance to break the current record of the longest Snapchat streak of 2478+ days between Daniel and Robin

What does not count in Snapchat streaks?

If you’re new to the platform, you might think that every possible interaction with other users on Snapchat gets counted in streaks. However, things don’t work like that here.

Out of the many ways two users or friends interact on Snapchat, the following don’t count towards Snapchat streaks.

  1. Text messages

You open Snapchat, tap on your friend’s name to open the chat, and start chatting. You might consider this the best and most convenient way to increase your Snapstreak. Unfortunately, sending text messages over the chat doesn’t count toward your streak.

  1. Snapchat Memories

Snapchat Memories is a feature that lets you save photos and videos for future memories. You can view them under the Memories tab on Snapchat.

Sometimes, these memories get resurfaced for you to have a look at or share again. Again, unfortunately, these Snapchat memories don’t count toward your streak.

  1. Group chats

Sending snaps in the group you and your other friend are a part of doesn’t influence your Snapstreak either.

According to the rules, sharing of snaps must take place in your private chats, not in a group.

  1. Stories

Posting cool stories on Snapchat is another interaction that doesn’t add to your streak. So, don’t consider posting a story, and your streak friend viewing it as a part of your streak.

  1. Snapchat spectacles

Last but not least, any video recorded and shared through Snapchat spectacles will not count towards your streak on Snapchat. Although they make you a Snapchatter

Be mindful of the above interactions and don’t assume they add any value to your streaks on Snapchat. Focus on only photos and videos shared in private chats.
