Steps to Upload or Import SharePoint Site Template Online

Here are the steps you need to follow to upload or import a SharePoint site template online and make your operations seamless.

To begin, log in to the SharePoint site and click on the Site Actions menu. From the drop-down menu, select Site Settings and then click on List templates under Galleries. This will take you to the List Template Gallery.

Once you are in the List Template Gallery, go to the Documents tab and choose Upload Document. This will allow you to browse for the .stp file that contains the template you want to import. Simply select the file and click on the Upload button to initiate the process.

After the file is uploaded, you need to create an item for the imported template. To do this, click on the Site Actions menu again and select More Options. From the Templates list, locate the uploaded template and enter a name for it to create the item.

For maintenance purposes, it is recommended to delete the template from the site after creating the imported item. To delete the template, follow these steps: click on the Site Actions menu, then navigate to Site Settings. Under Galleries, select List templates, and check the box next to the uploaded template. Switch to the Documents tab and click on Delete Document to remove the template from the site.

It’s important to note that only SharePoint 2010 Template files can be imported using this method. Additionally, be cautious when uploading site templates from external tenants, as permission issues and potential data structure problems may arise when working with external .wsp files.
