How To Delete Apps On Android That Came With Phone

No matter how much storage or RAM your phone has, there always comes a time when you run out of space.

The first thing most people do is delete the apps they don’t use. But here’s a problem: there are some apps on Android phones that you cannot remove.

These apps are known as pre-installed apps. Android phone users are often frustrated with the pre-installed apps.

Therefore, In this article, we will explain how to delete apps on Android that came with phone.

What is Bloatware?

The term bloatware is used for the software that comes pre-installed on your phones, tablets, and computers from the manufacturers.

Most of the time, this software isn’t even in use by the user; however, they consume the system resources by running secretly in the background, slowing down your device and quickly draining resources.

Some popular examples of pre-installed apps are:

Can Pre-installed Apps Be Deleted on Android

There is no official way to delete the pre-installed apps on your phone. The only thing your android phone allows you to do is to stop the apps from consuming your resources by disabling them from settings.

You can use the methods mentioned later in this article to delete pre-installed apps from your phone completely.

Uninstalling vs. Disabling Bloatware Which Is Better

When limiting pre-installed apps from consuming system resources, you can generally do only two things: either disable them from the settings mentioned earlier or you can delete them permanently.

No, you must be wondering which of the two is more suitable. There isn’t a specific answer for that, as both methods have pros and cons.

If you want to stop the app from consuming system resources, disabling it from the setting would be enough.

However, if you want to permanently remove the app’s files from your system to free up some extra space, you can uninstall these apps.

Though you should remember that the methods used to uninstall pre-installed apps have risks that can lead to further problems in your device. So the choice is up to you to make.

Disable Pre-installed Apps From the Settings

You must have seen that when you try to uninstall a pre-installed app, your device doesn’t show a uninstall option.

Because that app is a part of your device’s operating system, you cannot uninstall it. Nevertheless, you can disable them from your settings by following the steps mentioned below:

  1. Open the settings on your android device.
  2. Scroll down to apps/manage apps and tap on it.
  3. Now select the app that you want to disable.
Apps
  1. Tap on the disable button and then select disable the app.
  2. A popup will appear; press OK.
Disable app

This process will only prevent your app from consuming system resources and taking updates from the google play store.

The storage space used by this app will only be reduced, not completely freed up.

Note: Some apps can neither be disabled nor uninstalled as those are necessary for the phone to run, for example, the settings app.

Delete apps on android that came with phone

As mentioned earlier, there isn’t any official method to uninstall pre-installed apps from Android. However, you can still use the below-given methods to remove them permanently from your phone.

Use Android Debug Bridge (ADB)

ADB is a programming tool that is used for debugging android devices. With this tool, you can remove pre-installed apps from your phone by following these steps. But before you move into the steps, there are a few things that you would need:

  • Computer
  • USB cable

Steps to remove pre-installed apps with ADB:

  1. Download and extract the ADB tool on your computer.
  2. Open your phone settings and scroll down to developer options.
Developer options
  1. If you don’t find developer options go to about phone > Software Information > Tap on Build Number 7 times. (Developer mode will be enabled)
enable developer options
  1. Tap on Developer options and scroll down to USB debugging and enable it.
Enable USB debugging
  1. Now connect your phone to the computer with the USB cable.
  2. Once the phone is connected, go to the folder where you have extracted ADB and open the Command prompt or PowerShell window. You can open a command prompt by holding the shift key and clicking the right mouse button to select Open Command Window.
Open the command prompt window
  1.  After the Command prompt window opens, type in the command “adb devices”.
  2. A popup screen will appear on your Android phone asking permission to Allow USB debugging on your PC; Tap on OK to proceed.
  3. Download the App inspector app on your android phone. After launching the app select the pre-installed apps that you want to delete. You will see the package name of the app, take a picture of that package name or note it down somewhere carefully.
  4. Now in the command prompt, type in the following command: pm uninstall -k? user 0 “Package name”. For example, the package name for chrome is “com.android.chrome”, so the command will be: pm uninstall -k? user 0 com. android.chrome

By doing this, the apps will get removed from your phone permanently. You can download them again from the Google play store or by downloading an APK file. Or they will automatically come back when you will factory reset your phone.

Delete Pre-installed Apps by Rooting

Rooting is another method to permanently delete pre-installed apps from your phone, as rooting gives you complete control over your device.

However, we don’t recommend this method due to the following reasons:

  • You may lose your phone’s warranty.
  • Rooting is illegal in some countries.
  • You may end up bricking your device.
  • Your device will become prone to malware.
  • Rooting reveals your personal information to hackers.
  • You may also face some updating issues.

If you’re not afraid of these risks, you can try rooting your phone and then using System app remover to remove the pre-installed app.

Delete Unwanted Apps From the App Drawer

If the app you want to remove isn’t pre-installed, you can use this method to uninstall it.

  1. Go to the app drawer screen on your phone.
  2. Select the app you want to remove and long-press it until the quick menu pops up.
  3. Tap on the uninstall option.
Uninstall app
  1. Permission to delete the app will appear; select OK.

Delete Apps From Settings

Another way to uninstall an app is to uninstall it from the settings. For this, follow the steps mentioned below:

  2. Scroll down to the app and tap on it.
  3. Select the apps you want to delete.

Conclusion

An easy way to prevent pre-installed apps from consuming system resources is to disable them from the settings.

Otherwise, you can try the ADB tool or rooting method if you want to delete all app files. But remember that these methods are complicated and also involve the risk of harming your mobile. So whatever method you select, choose wisely.
