Is Compattelrunner.exe Safe For The System?

It is safe to use as it is a part of the system. And it also does not harm your system but has advantages and disadvantages. Several times it causes the slowdown of devices and high CPU and block in Windows task manager. It is not a necessary component of the system. And thus, the user can remove it according to their convenience.

Solutions To Disable/Fix Compattelrunner.exe

The simplest way to fix the high CPU and disk space usage caused by Compattelrunner.exe is to disable it. You can try doing the below fixes to dissolve the issue:

1. Use Task Scheduler to disable CompatTelRunner.exe process
2. Disable Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry via Command Prompt
3. Delete CompatTellRunner.exe with administrator rights
4. Edit Group Policy to disable Telemetry data transfer
5. Check your Windows operating system for malware
6. Check Windows for corrupted files
7. Update your Windows OS
8. Perform a disk cleanup
9. Optimize your system and make it work more efficiently

Solution 1. Use Task Scheduler To Disable Compattelrunner.Exe Process

The first thing you could do to fix the issue is disable the CompatTelRUnner.exe process from the Task Scheduler. For this, follow the below steps:

1. Open the Run application by searching Run on the Taskbar or, you can also use the shortcut command Windows + R for the same.
2. Now, in the input windows. Type taskschd.msc and hit enter.
3. It will open the Task Scheduler for you. 

4. Locate Application Experience from there. You find it under the Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > Application Experience.
5. Open the Application Experience and select the Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser.
6. Now, double-click on it to open the selections and select disable.

Solution 2. Disable Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry Via Command Prompt

For this, you’ll need to open the Command prompt in Administrator mode.

To open Command Prompt in the administrator mode, follow the below commands:

1. Open run by using the Shortcut keys Windows + R.
2. Now enter cmd in the input window and do Shift + Ctrl + Enter for opening it in the Administrators mode.

Note – Do not press ok for running the command as it will open it in the admin rights.

Now on the top of the Prompt window, examine if the administrator’s mode is specified or not. If not, repeat the same step. And if you were successful in opening the Command Prompt in the administrator’s mode. You can proceed with the below steps here:

Once done, close all the applications on your device and put your system on restart. 

Solution 3. Delete Compattelrunner.Exe With Administrator Rights

For entirely deleting the CompatTelRunner with the administrator rights, you will need to follow the below commands:

1. Open the File Explorer and search C:\Windows\System32.
2. Now locate the CompatTelRunner in the system32 path and double-click on it to open the properties.

3. Go to the Security tab and select the Advanced options from the bottom.
4. Now click on Change at the top of TustedInstaller, and type in the new object as Administrators.
5. Now click on check names, and at last click ok.

6. Again open the properties and go to the Security tab. And select the Administrators from the Group or user names and click edit.
7. Again select the Administrators and check the box saying Allow Full Control and press ok.

You can now find its folder in the same System32 folder and delete it using the setting menu. Once done, reboot the system and see if the problem has gone.

Solution 4. Edit Group Policy To Disable Telemetry Data Transfer

Configuring the group policy could help you tackle the issues. To edit the group policy, follow the below commands:

1. Open Run application with the shortcut command Windows + R.
2. Now, enter gpedit.msc in the input window and hit enter.
3. Render to the Data Collection and Preview Builds. That you can find in the following location:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds

After getting to the Data Collection and Preview Builds, execute the following instructions:

1. Now, from the right, double-click on Allow Telemetry.
2. Select disable from the displayed checkboxes and click apply, followed by the ok button.

Solution 5. Check Your Windows Operating System For Malware

The issue could be malware and, to ensure it is not the issue, running a quick malware scan is a good idea.

For running the malware scan on your system, follow the below steps:

1. Open the windows settings.
2. And from there, search for Windows Security.
3. Now, click on Open Windows Security.
4. And then select Virus & threat protection.
5. Click on the Quick Scan and wait for the results. If you find any malware files, try performing the scan in safe mode.

You can also do that if you wish to use some other third-party software. It is totally up to you. And if you find any virus, take quick action to remove it from your system. Once done, see if your system is in the optimal state or is facing the same issues.

Solution 6. Check Windows For Corrupted Files

You will need to run the DISM and the SFC tool to check windows for any corrupted files. But before using DISM and SFC, it is good to put your device in safe mode to avoid scanning errors. So to put your device in Safe Mode, obey the below steps:

1. Execute the Windows key + R command to open the Run application.
2. Now enter msconfig in the input window and hit enter.
3. Now open the Boot Tab and under the Boot options, check the safe mode option and apply the changes.

For running the SFC tool:

1. Render to the search bar and enter cmd.
2. Now, from the options provided, select Run as Administrator.
3. Type sfc /scannow and press enter.

4. Now, the system file checker will start scanning the damaged files. And will fix all the files for you in seconds.

Note:- Use the commands with proper space, or it may cause errors.

For running the DISM tool:

1. Search cmd on the search bar. And hit enter!
2. Now, inscribe DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth, and proceed by pressing enter.

Once the test is over, close the safe mode and restart your computer. If any damaged files are detected, use DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth command and press enter.

Solution 7. Update Your Windows OS

It is crucial to check if your windows system is up to date. If it is not updated, do update it since an outdated version can also be an issue for you. To check the updates and install the updates, you need to obey the following steps:

1. Open windows settings by searching.
2. Click on the windows update from the top right corner of the Settings window.
3. In the next window, you will see a button saying check for updates. Click on it.
4. If any updates are available, install them.

Now, finally, check if this fixes the issue. If it does not, proceed with the below steps.

Solution 8. Perform A Disk Cleanup

For clearing the disk space, you can proceed with the following steps:

1. Search disk cleanup on the search bar. And open it.
2. Now, select the drive you want to clean and click ok.

3. Select the files from there and, you can also see the description of that particular folder by selecting it.

You can also select to delete the system files to clear up more space from the disk.
